A Great Blog-New Resource
In my Web Travels I came across this link and found the blog to have a lot of good stuff. I expect to spend the next day just getting a taste of it! Of course, it will go in my favorites, for future enjoyment and education.

As we wait for our government to do its job, quit jerking us around, just raise the debt ceiling cause it has to be done,(even if just a few billion dollars) it's important to enjoy life.
I was reading a treatsie http://www.economist.com/node/21524079
last night about the unemployed getting used to not having a boss. Even self employment emplies a boss, oneself. It further stated that having a boss sucked. I'm with you there.
The article was about Post Materialism. I found that word intriguing so went right on over to Wikipedia to see what it was.
A bunch of jargon later and I'm left with this simple idea: a life philosophy where Being is more important that Having. Its about being self determined and actuated.
I think Minimalism is a good synonym for Post Materialism. Those of us into minimalism don't plan on changing anytime soon. They say our national economy is about 60% consumer spending. Heads up: if you economists are waiting for us minimalists to step up to the plate and buy stuff, forget it now.
OK, so this article also dealt with the idea of the Threshold Earner: a person who had a specific economic bracket they wanted to fit into. They are content earning that amount. Once that amount is earned, they use their time to enjoy life with the idea that more "down time" or unemployed time was a good thing. A guy asked Thoreau's what on earth should he do with all his spare time during retirement? Our hero, Henry David advised, " well, then just keep working until you can afford your free papers."
I admit to having an unnaturally strong work ethic. I'm trying to funnel that into creative endeavors, all of which do not have to produce tangible goods.
Survival of the Zaniest
At http://www.borowitzreport.com/ Today's headline on my favorite "news" blog is, paraphrased: In New Pole Trump Vs PalinMost Chose Suicide.
I must concur.
Reading this wonderful blog reminds me why Americans are so resilient. We can make light of the craziest things. Jay Leno had a bumper week with bin Laden taking hits. You can watch his episodes for free at http://hulu.com
On more serious notes, gas prices are expected to decline. This is great news for us seasonal workers headed out to our new jobs. I'll be working and blogging from Grand Tetons National Park, where I'll be cooking for Vail Resorts at Jackson Lake Lodge. If you think you'd like a gig like this, or at some other cool spot, check out http://coolworks.com
I read an article about Not becoming a target for criminals in Psychology Today magazine. Much of the information I had already memorized and practice: stay alert, not distracted, out of dark places , don't flaunt wealth or talk to strangers, trust your instincts, comportment with purpose.
One thing I hadn't realized: women dressed too modestly, with high necklines, long sleeves and multiple layers actually look submissive. Hopefully, that's not me. My face and expression say much, but I'll keep that in mind. Most of the time I wear sleeveless tops while driving, with a light jacket for warmth.
Not much other news here. I'm supportive of women on adventures. Fear destroys dreams, and worry takes away pleasure.
Survival is a head game more than anything else. The right attitude has kept many children alive when strength alone was insufficient.
A petite confident woman is less likely to be a target of thieves than a large passive man.
Gear Testing-the Woman's Bag
I have a new Eureka Women's Sleeping Bag to test this weekend.

Apparently the full moon will be closer to the earth than its been in 18 years. Some folks feel this portends disaster. I'm not that worried, whatever happens we'll deal.
Perhaps as American's we've become so complacent with past prosperity that anything new or threatening is cause for upset.
I finished reading an article in Money, August 2010, an interview with Bill Gross. He keeps mentioning the "new normal".
Will Rogers said "I'm not so much concerned about the return on my money as the return of my money".
Well spoken, and sad, because its become so normal for our investments to evaporate in the bubbles we've lived through, that just not loosing principle keeps us happy.
My strategy? Buy one quality item, learn how to fix anything that can go wrong with it (sewing, gluing, hammering, whatever) and wear it out.
Avoid any tendency to reward myself with material goods. Instead, reward myself with free time, adventure, and companionship.
Responsible consumership is the new normal.
Survivalistblog.net A Great Resourse
I came across this link while searching for tips on dealing with nuclear disasters.

This is a huge issue right now, even enough for the President to do a complete review of our current emergency systems and who would do what.
The links page on this survival blog has many places to read about guns, gardening, trailer living, hand to hand fighting and self defense, food and water with calculators, trapping wild game, raising animals. Some links are for videos, some for books, some are websites.
I've become interested in skills which involve improvisation. Using only what is at hand, easily obtainable, or can be hand made are the true skills for coming disasters.
Admittedly, this type of thinking will not endure you to governments and authority figures. They want you to think things are under control, just get in the line for assistance.
Others know and have seen that only self reliant thinking will get you through when there is a true disaster. Food, water, shelter and self defense are critical elements in a catastrophe.
